Animanima report!

Haptic director Tess Martin recently returned from Serbia, where she presented two programs of PNW animations at the Animanima International Animation Festival in Cacak. Program 1 included films from Britta Johnson, Laura Heit, Michel Gagné, Stefan Gruber, Devin Ensz, Drew Christie, Joan Gratz, Webster Crowell, Chel White and Kurtis Hough. Program 2 was a mini-retrospective of the work of Bruce Bickford. You can also see the full line up here.

Tess also gave a lecture about the scene in this region called ‘What Rules? The Independent Spirit of the PNW of the USA’. And in Belgrade she presented an abridged program of PNW films and gave a short talk at the American Corner cultural center in Belgrade.

On top of all this she was also on the jury for the Children’s Films Competition and had the pleasure to watch numerous films and give out three awards, along with her two fellow jury members Hungarian historian Annaida Orosz and Serbia animator/illustrator Vuk Palibrk.

Overall this was a great way to introduce the work of PNW animators to Serbian audiences, and we hope to do more of these lecture/screening combinations in the future. Get in touch if you’re interested in hosting.

Thank you Animanima and the American Corner for having us!
