The Northwest’s premiere showcase of new work by regional filmmakers, the Northwest Filmmakers’ Festival—for 38 years called the Northwest Film & Video Festival—brings artists and audiences together for a singular community celebration. Each year the Festival draws more than 400 entries from filmmakers in Alaska, British Columbia, Idaho, Montana, Oregon, and Washington, presenting to the public carefully selected programs of outstanding work and awarding critical recognition to top juror- and audience-recognized films. After the Festival, the event lives on in the form of the “Best of the Northwest” touring program, presented at key cultural and educational organizations across the Northwest. Past tour programs have been presented all the way to the edges of the Northwest, in Great Falls, MT, Klamath Falls, OR, Seattle, WA, Hanes, AK, and Boise, ID, among many other locations.

CucalorusCucalorus is not an animation-specific festival, but don't let that stop you from submitting. This non-competition festival (occurring in November) famously helps pay for travel for all accepted filmmakers, regardless of film category or film length. Once you get there you will be treated to 4 days of non-stop parties and food, and meeting filmmakers from all over the world. Don't miss this one!

Regular deadline is June 22nd and late deadline is July 27th (cheaper if you submit early).

Manchester-Animation-Festival-logoThe Manchester Animation Festival is a relatively new arrival on the scene, only in its third year. But its organizers come from the sadly recently defunct Bradford Animation Festival, and they are guaranteed to run a good show.

The festival occurs November 14-16 and is open to shorts, student films and commissioned films (like music videos) but not features.

    Deadline is July 28th.
